“High...way...men!” Jayne listened to the sound of the syllables as she spoke them. “Highwaymen? Is it possible?”
The smile had forsaken Williams face. He looked thoughtful.
“It is possible," he muttered.
The three looked at each other in what felt to Jayne like an eternal silence. The wind buffeted them, its sound through the nearby trees sounding like laughter.
And what had started as an amusing idea soon became serious consideration.
Later that same evening at Challicott Manor they came to a decision and toasted their new venture with a decanter of port. The business of highway robbery had begun.
