Warrior #1

by

If, in the metallic stench of this battle's aftermath,
I see you as an enemy and raise my blade to you -
Cry out my name, but come not close expecting I will hear.

And if,
beneath these sodden clouds turned the pallor of cold dead skin
you see me stand and weep
come not near
nor tarry
but in silence move as if invisible;
and should you find sanctuary
then to your knees with open eyes
pray you to the old Gods
that I may remember friends, and may remember
reasons good and true and stout enough to battle for.

    That is intriguing and a bit ominous. I love the last bit, though, is there any good reason for battles? Except [quote] to stand and weep [/unquote]

    A wonderful and very timely piece Drew. I love the writing and the imagery. ‘sodden clouds turned the pallor of cold dead skin’... wow, brilliant. I have had to read the pair several times both for full comprehension (which I doubt I’ve achieved) and sheer enjoyment of both construction and fabulous use of language. I give it 11 out of 11. A masterpiece!
