The Bridge #6

by

"If I go now, I can make it back home," it said.
"No, no!" cried the boy, "If you go now, you'll never be able to return. Ever!"
The monster cried too, and said only "Goodbye."
And the monster hugged him and, without another word, it left.
The boy closed the wardrobe door, leapt onto his bed and cried himself to sleep.
The denouement of the story comprised two scenes: first, the boy, twenty years later, working in an office. And finally, in a different dimension, the monster, sad and alone, but still clutching one last piece of that bridge.

Man, this is fascinating, Drew. Like an episode of The Twilight Zone, full of monsters and other dimensions but at its core really a study of man.
