Mrs Elys Travesty #7

by

She wiped a tear with the back of her sleeve.
"Food!" she'd shouted and the girls came running. Carl, ever the clown, threw himself backwards into the water, arms spread wide. The river closed over him as if he'd never been there.
She'd laughed. So had the girls.
"Daddy! Food!" they'd yelled, laughing.
The river, smooth as a silk shroud, murmured.
She'd stood up. Fear felt hot as the sun. Teeth clenched. Panic sweated over her face.
Until he exploded out of the water, gasping, running laughing towards them. Both the girls, shrieking.
She'd laughed along with them.
"Carl, Carl..."

This is wonderfully written, Drew. Looking forward to the rest.

I can’t agree more Christopher. A tantalising mood picture that transcends word, image and mental foreboding. Keep at it Drew. Top drawer!

Steve, is Neville okay? It's not like him to be away from Drablr this long.

I expect he has much on his plate as Mrs H’s mother has just died. As an irrepressible bloke I’m confident he’ll re-emerge anytime soon! Neville where are you?

Yes, I'm missing Neville but I reckon he's having some family time after their recent bereavement. If you speak to him Steve would you pass on our best wishes.

Like Carl, I’ve popped out of the water (no need for shrieks girls!). Thanks all for your concern and good wishes guys. I’m playing catch-up with this new story Drew... and loving it. I must admit to being a little fearful for the outcome, knowing that you like to operate on the dark side Drew.

Thanks Neville. Yes, I do like the dark side, though I fear this one may be very dark, even for me.
