"They've taken her to her home. She's breathing, Sheriff. But only just."
They raced up the main street, Sherman having trouble keeping up with the Sheriff.
"Get Doc Morris!" barked Cole.
"He's there now, Sheriff. I told him 'fore I got to you."

From the outside, the Cody place was small and tidy. A thin finger of smoke from the chimney pointed darkly into the chill air, and the windows glowed a faint lamplight yellow. Doc Morris stood at the open door, smoking a cheroot. He looked worried.
"How is she, Doc?" Sheriff Cole panted.
The Doc shook his head.

Your ‘From the outside’ paragraph is terrific, so visual in its writing. This is first class stuff Drew!

This story can go where it wants to go. The will of its own sure is making it exciting 😰

Thanks Neville, I have an idea of a final destination, but no direct route yet.

That’s exciting then Drew! I am ‘with baited breath’. I hope Anna Cody’s alive and survives, as she’s the narrator, but maybe she will describe her death! It all so up in the air! 🤔

I’m still no closer myself to knowing the ending of my story. Mrs H tells me I never finish the stories... but how the hell does she know? She never reads any part of them!😡

My good lady rarely reads anything either, but I like it that way, at least until I've finished them. I'm sure going on past experience you'll find an ending that is both exciting and unexpected, and anyway I'm not complaining if it never ends, as the journey is so good! :)
