I don't know how long I stood alone, feeling closer to every living thing than I ever had amongst people until I became aware of something behind me. I turned slowly.
Whatever it was, it glided silently on top of the mist, like a boat on calm water.
Its head, like a wondrous figurehead, pointed towards me. Its wide chest, three times my girth, jutted proud and unstoppable like a prow; its body floated without a sound upon the waves of the mist, and a tail swung slowly, disturbing for small moments the calm white sea that it barely touched.

As a river dweller and enthusiast I can completely identify with these wonderful impressions.

Thanks Steve. I love everything about rivers (though strangely I feel totally indifferent to the sea, unless there's a storm) but especially the wildlife and landscape around them.

Great imagery Drew. You have a knack of taking your readers to a higher level on an ethereal wave of consciousness. Great stuff to read within an intriguing storyline. I’m there by that river. The mist reminds me of a vacation job I once had. It will be my next drabble!

I can live with a river, always there non-threatening compared to the volatile sea, continuous, a synchronised pulse, cool influence
and totally involved with those of us so fortunate to have such an intimate relationship with one of nature’s majestic gifts. Rivers and trees are just so precious - years and years of evolution - in my DNA.
