The shriek of the demon turned into the howl of the wind before it died away. I saw Chay and Farmer staring worriedly at me, but they hadn't yet seen the change that had happened. How had they not seen? But how happy they'll be.
Somehow the demon had disappeared, replaced by something else, something of calm beauty, something which filled the room with love and protection, nurture and safety. In those soft eyes and caring smile I recognised a look I barely remembered, and knew the smell of a home long forgotten.
