“If I died, would you die too, to be with me?”
Sometimes Charlotte asked the weirdest questions.
She was a strange mixture of maturity and childlike simplicity. As on the outside, so it is on the inside, I had discovered.
Sometimes she had a young girl’s face, applied make-up and confidence and became a sophisticated business woman. Sometimes she said childlike things; other times she discussed existentialism, parenthood or politics with great perception.
She whispered: “I wondered if we’d be together on the other side. I’d like to know.”
I kissed her. I hope so, was all I said.
