Muriel hadn’t left her house in the eight years since her husband Reg had died, and in the last two years she hadn't seen anyone - which was why she jumped when the telephone rang.
Unsteadily, she picked it up.
---Muriel. It’s Reg---
She fell back against the wall, trembling, silent tears streaming.
---Everything’s ok, Muriel, don’t be afraid. Come outside---

Astonishingly, as she stepped over her body, prone in the passage, she felt much stronger. Whole. And when she realised what had happened she laughed for the first time in eight years and rushed out joyfully to meet her Reg.

That's a nice, pleasant, spooky one, Drew. At least my interpretation.

And that's a perfect interpretation Richard. I wanted to do something that was dark, but something a little more positive and uplifting. I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the comment.

The happy ending works terrifically here. You can feel Muriel's relief and joy.
