He knew that house intimately, after dreaming of it every night for twenty years.
In his dream he'd stand on the stairs and watch
as someone below
walked
across the hallway, look up at him,
frown,
then open the door to someone unknown, unseen, someone who felt like an intruder.
So when he unexpectedly drove past that house, he had to stop and knock.

The door eventually opened and a voice from inside said "You cannot come in! This house is haunted."
Amused, he asked into the darkness "And who haunts this place?"
The voice sounded frightened.
"You" it said.

I truly didn't expect the twist at the end. Excellent work!

Enjoyed this a great deal and oddly enough, last night I had a dream about the house I grew up in. Very queer!

Thanks folks. Weirdly, Horrorshow, the story came indirectly from my dream about the house I grew up in.
