Encounter

Adam stood at the airlock door when it opened.
A furry catlike creature sat inside, vigilantly eyeing him.
He stepped forward and lifted it up carefully.

Zrrgl was unsure of how to react.
Dimly she perceived the inferior mind of the thing.
She could have killed it with a single thought.
But instead she began to purr.

Adam took the alien to the medical unit for some tests.

*DONG!*
He opened his eyes, meeting Colonel Snyder, who helped him out of the Simultron.

In another "dream machine" lay Eve, his girlfriend, still completing the "first contact" test.
She was purring.
