Five to four in the morning and I’m pacing around the kitchen nervously nibbling on Jacob’s Cream Crackers. There’s a knock at the front door that only I can hear so I take the bread knife and…

(What if it’s my husband’s lover? I couldn’t bare to see him again. What if it’s Ellie coming back from university to shout at me or Stephen returning from Afghanistan with his laundry?)

I do what I should have done a long time ago. There are crumbs on my lips as I open the front door and thrust hard with the buttered blade.

I found this one funny, but I'm not sure if it was meant that way or not. Regardless, it is yet another great drabble from you!

Thanks, Brandon! I'll be honest; I didn't intentionally inject any humour into this drabble but you aren't the first person to tell me that they thought it was funny. I'm always happy to get any kind of reaction! :-D

Nice bit of directionless violence from the character there. Really loved this, and the hidden stories of stress within the family that lies behind the action.
