The music swelled, the people's dances becoming more urgent as a result of the bursting rhythm.
Dresses fanned out, falling still in an eerie manner as all fell to a silence like death itself.
Waltzing was no longer an indulgence- the people, both poor and rich, danced to escape the pain of living under the wrath and hunger of those things.
A man entered the large, Victorian-style ballroom and surveyed the people's still positions. His deep, resonating chuckle made it almost impossible to remain still; and yet, not even a breath was released.
He smiled, revealing his pointed fangs.

Love how at first you think that the dancers are enjoying themselves until the reality of their existence is revealed. Really like the title of the drabble too. Good stuff as always, Emily.
