Jenny's best friends felt cheated, betrayed. She'd always been so strong, indestructible. How could she leave them?
They met after the funeral.
Adeline held an envelope.
''This is from Jenny, for us. Listen.''
''You always called me for a shoulder to cry. I spent long hours listening to your woes, real or imaginary, year after year. It was always about you only but when my turn came, you had no time. Simply said I'd be OK.
Well, I wasn't OK.
Remember this: even the strongest mountain can crumble with too much snow on top. I crumbled."

A heavy silence fell.

Wow Frenchie, that’s powerful... and probably very true in rather many cases! The power of really listening is quite rare these days. But sometimes the real listener needs to be really listened to too! Great stuff!

(Btw, in line 2, is it ‘how come she’d left them.’ or ‘how could she leave them?’)

    Thanks Neville and Christopher.
Double thanks, Neville for pointing out my mistake. Lately, I have been reading too many old French novels. Do you know Angelique Marquise des Anges series? Maybe Mrs H does.
Aggghhh, too much French and my English goes out of the window...!! I corrected the mistake. 😊😊

No Frenchie, I don't recall Mrs H reading them and I certainly haven't.. The book she has been reading with her French group is very dreary and dull. It's L'Etranger, by Albert Camus. It's bleak, it's grim and she hasn't liked it one bit! I read the synopsis and felt like slashing my wrists! Hehe! only kidding!...

...I do like watching French movies, some of the time. They tend to be quite arty except one of my favourites, Quand J'etais Chanteur, but that may be because of the star, Cecile de France, and its authentic-seeming location, storyline and the dancing. It's set in/near Clermont Ferrand... never been there... probably never will! (Unless Cecile de France is still there!). And Gerard Depardieu sings imho the very best version of 'Save the last dance for me'... I love it.

Neville, check out Angelique Marquise des Anges, then. But it is a bit racy in part, especially after she got married (especially the film, LOL)

Will do, Frenchie. Racy’s OK with me😁
