Carefully read the first line of a Book

Algernon started reading a short story book and he opened at the first page.

He read the first line and it said “For god’s sake duck!”. Algernon was intrigued but out of fascination he scrunched low in his chair.

Immediately a sparkling silver knife flashed over him and went “THWACK” into the opposite wall.

Algernon was frightened, what should he do ? Fear became curiosity and he focused and read the next line. It said “your safe, the Villain’s been vanquished”, Algernon breathed a sigh of relief it was over and fell out of the chair he was sleeping in.
