He led the ship closer to the blue star. It lurched as gravity took over. He would make this jump.
The ship’s heat alarm began to complain. He attacked the controls, skirting the very edge of the star. The violent shaking made it hard to control. But he would succeed. Just a little more.
The shaking increased. More alarms sounded. He ignored them, keeping his eyes on the speed gauge. Almost there. Green. He punched the button. The hyper drive whirred, and he smiled. He had survived Hooker’s Pass. The ship seemed to stall, then fire.
Instantly, he was gone.
