'Become the wolf,' her teacher instructed, her beady black eyes boring into the princess' innocent stare.
'Don't want to be a wolf.'
'Why not?'
The girl shrugged. 'They're mean, nasty, ugly.'
'Little fool,' the teacher hissed, and she slashed her bronze knife across her student's cheek, peppering the stone floor with scarlet.
The princess cried out in pain, clutching her face.
'You are a fool,' her teacher announced. 'The wolf is mean, nasty, ugly — that is true. But that is because it's a survivor.'
She raised the knife again.
'And I am here to teach you how to survive.'

“Oh dear”, he said with masked excitement, “someone’s going to get really hurt here. How delicious!”

"Damn," replied his friend, "that woman makes the belt look good."

When I was 5, two teachers shared my class. Miss Were and Miss Wasby. Now... and this is true, even at 5 years old, Ithought that wasn’t correct. Surely it should have been Miss Were and Miss Will Be? (Absolutely true!)

Hahaha! I agree with your 5-year-old self, that should have been the case. I remember I had a French stand-in teacher once who liked to say, in a very theatrical voice, 'I am Madame Fortune'. We didn't get on, so I 'accidentally' started calling her Miss Fortune... you get it? :)

Yep, I get it Andrew. It reminds me of an old risqué, radish but funny schoolboy joke I might one day convert to a drabble! 🤣

Rude-ish not radish! Autocorrect strikes again! 😡 (I should have checked before uploading though!)

If you do, I look forward to reading it! I must confess, though, I was far from a radish — I only ever mentioned it once, then chickened out. I was too goody-too-shoes, I suppose... pity, really :)

It’s posted. Rather rude, but very schoolboyish. Hope it doesn’t offend.
