Walking around the park today, as we do every day.

Walking to the little lake, full today of mallards and moorhens. The seagulls have flown away - probably to a nearby lake where the fishermen are. School is out so there are schoolchildren plus two families with very young children.

The young children are feeding the ducks and moorhens with bread, cake and seeds … the birds quack and sing as they are fed.

A swan arrives majestically, to join in the feast. A child turns towards it and says, “Come on swan, sing your song and I will feed you”.

Well, I am flabbergasted, my gast has never been so flabbered. Nobody asked or answered the question whether the swan ate any bread, cake or seeds!!! And this was a real situation!

Was it perhaps a Mute Swan?... and thus did not join in the feast?

Even had it been a mute swan, when it sang its swan song, it would die.
