Fermi's Disappointment

It was his first time. You weren't allowed in unless you could speak three of the common languages: English, Vardaak, and Pavlee. Being his native language, it was easier to use the English names for the languages, after the planets on which they were birthed.

Despite this bar's reputation as a cultural melting pot, there didn't seem to be any aliens he could see.

"Where are all the aliens?", Jim said to the bartender, as he walked up and pulled a stool.
A few patrons around him shot him some glances.

"Not here since the truce broke. At war again."
