Thomas knew that sunrise should be soon. He had watched that beautiful orb spread its radiance across the Manhattan skyline many times since he was a small boy. First with his mother, then with the kids at the orphanage and finally alone. Alone, like this frigid January morning.

Yes, there were still a few minutes remaining before the Sun should peak above the skyscrapers along the horizon. But there should already be a glow in the sky. The sadness grew as he faced the inner coldness. In his heart he knew this would be the first day without a sunrise.
