Lariat let the horse canter gently around the coastal road; though high, and almost three-quarters surrounded by sea, the nip in the air was pleasant, the sun shone, and they'd made good time, with good weather ahead. His armour now adjusted for fair skies, the bulk of the protective layers strapped across the beast's behind, he reminded the horse not to worry.

There would be no combat along the coast. Everyone knew what was coming in from the waters; they'd all fled in good time, but there was nothing to fear in the last light.

Then he felt rain.
