The faith held by some hospital staff may give them strength in serving the patients, and indeed holding themselves together. But that is not the same as someone who does not work here approaching a patient he has never met and about whose case he knows nothing , and trying to heal her from the top of her head to the tips of her toes while she is in the middle of enjoying a paradoxical mixture of fresh air and cigarette smoke. Truthfully, perhaps I minded his interruption of, or contribution to, her brief ward escape more than she did.

This is terrific, Jamie. I love the paradox you’ve identified but above all I love your indignation and hope I would have felt as indignant too.

Thanks Neville. There may have been some pettiness in my indignation. I sometimes get the hump when people talk to patients I am involved with as if I'm not there. ;-)

Pettiness is cool Jamie, and allowed! I am pretty certain that in the same situation I would be distinctly narked at some self-styled faith healer poking his nose in, however well-meaning that nose might be!
