The foxes scattering the sachets formerly full of cat food round the garden do it at night, but one recently put in a daytime appearance , bringing to mind a wise, elderly, bearded man.

He was aware of me, and that he was chancing it, the readiness to run in his eyes as perfectly dignified as readiness to read in a person.

We hung in our awareness of one another a moment longer.

Then, as I took a step forward, he seemingly shoulder shrugged himself out of existence.

With due respect, I closed the French windows on his probable return.

I've watched a fox suddenly come across the badger who regularly digs up my garden and drinks at the pond. Who was going to scare who?. It was the fox. On sight of the badger he jumped all four legs in the air and beat it sharpish.

Foxes take flight very easily don't they? Don't think I saw this but I'm told a cat we had once chased a fox over multiple fences.. :-)
