The Message

With growing anticipation he watched the Whatsapp ticks change. The first grey tick appeared immediately on sending the message, the second tick coming seconds later.

“Come on, come on.” he thought, as his screen display dimmed. He touched the screen to return to full brightness. He looked at the name of his contact in the top left corner. The display said that she was last active three minutes ago.

Finally the ticks turned green. She had read the message. Now she knew. He turned off his phone, removed the sim card and threw it into the canal. It was over.
