She'd been here, so many times before. A broken shell in front of an uncaring smile. Unseeing eyes and a smirk.

Why was she still here? Could any answer ever be good enough?

"I need some more," He said. Like he was talking about the weather. "Just a bit extra this month. Things have been hard."

She sat there, still, numb. Not even compliance. Nothing came.

Empty. Silent.

"Babe?" He prodded.

She just shook her head. Too weak. It'd break her to give any more. She was barely surviving as it is.

"No," She whispered.

So he cracked her skull.
