An icy wind sliced through the twilit valley. The witch approached the warlock, laying her husband’s bones before him.
“Resurrect Yalok,” she said.
“As you wish, Kaiya.”
Var spoke to the dry bones:
There was a rattling as of a thousand vipers, and each bone went to its bone. Sinews and flesh came upon them. Yalok shrieked in the terror of new life, and again as Var and Kaiya cut him to pieces for the hundredth time.
“Betrayer!” shouted Kaiya, spitting on the bloody chunks.
With Yalok dead again, Var and Kaiya set about to decide his next death.
