He'd never bothered making resolutions. It was hardly a matter of willpower, just that as every day was much like any other, 1 January seemed a bit arbitrary.
His need was great, though. He resolved to cut from his life all those who'd let him down, he'd warned them often enough. He resolved to make a fresh start, put past mistakes behind him.
He began fulfilling these pledges with gusto.
And when even the slopes of Hell were silent, and the cold dead Universe was an unimaginably dense piece of gravel in his hand, God saw that it was good.
